2015 Salsa Horsethief Carbon Frame

Our premier Horsethief offering features a high-modulus carbon fiber frame with aluminum chainstay and Dave Weagle’s incredible Split Pivot rear suspension. In addition to massively increasing frame stiffness and tracking, the carbon frame removes three quarters of a pound from its aluminum counterparts.  Offers improved stiffness, better vibration damping, excellent toughness, and weight savings. This frame offers 340-gram weight savings over aluminum Horsethief frame. Molding process creates incredibly smooth interior walls, most notably at the tubing junctions, thereby increasing frame strength over other types carbon frame construction.

120mm of Split Pivot rear travel, combined with 29er wheels and our Devour Geometry, make the Horsethief capable of tackling terrain you might not typically expect a 29er to excel on.  Designed for use with 120 – 130mm travel suspension forks with axle-to-crown between 528 to 532mm. Steering and handling feel (mechanical trail) was designed using a 51mm offset suspension fork. This offset allows for a slacker headtube angle and longer front/center, which results in increased cockpit room and a better angle and attack, leading to improved handling
